Georgia, The Peach State
A producer of peanuts, corn, and soybeans across much of the state, Georgia is the biggest producer of pecans in the world. The northeast part of the state boasts itself as the Poultry Capital of the World. Georgia is also the fifth largest producer of blueberries in America.
Even with the need for more manual labor when producing fruit than other agricultural products, Georgia's rural population is in decline like many other parts of the country.
I'm embarrassed to say that with family living here and a few Florida vacations under my belt, I've never made an official Lost Americana trip through Georgia. Just a few stops off the highway at sunset to take pictures in this beautiful state.
Lost Americana is about telling the stories of the people who live in rural America.
•Have you lived in the same rural area since the 1970s?
•Were you the last to graduate from a rural high school before it closed its doors forever?
•Do you know of a small town (under 2,000 people) that is a shell of it's former glory?
•Do you just what to give me some feedback on the topics I cover?
